Our Rainbow Dream Glass Heart Paperweight makes a wonderful, one-of-a-kind gift or keepsake for yourself or a loved one. The emotive colors in our handmade Rainbow Dream Glass Heart Paperweights speak to the complexity and depth of our feelings. Our new Rainbow Dream glass sculpture is a stunning example of this. Each unique, Rainbow Dream Heart paperweight, is made with different swirling colors of the rainbow and made from opaque sheet glass. We also swirl in ethereal dichroic glass to add an element of shimmering sparkle to our Rainbow Dream glass heart. Each color is carefully selected for its special qualities. The many shades of colored glass are swirled together with shimmering dichroic glass specially formulated to remain crisp and clean.

Using color in the glass isn’t like mixing paint, it’s all about chemistry, patience, and experimentation. Also, because there is no “canvas”, layering colors is a tricky process. You have to make sure enough light can get into the piece so you can actually see the layers of colors. We have mastered using specialty colors in joyous, rich layers for your pleasure in the Enchanted Heart Paperweight.

Dichroic or “dichro” glass is glass that shifts between two or more colors in the light. We’ve been using it a lot this year in our sparkly Vedic Paperweights (as seen to the right). A type of dichroic glass dates back to 4th century Rome. However, we can thank NASA for our modern-day dichro! This article from Fire Mountain Gems explains, “Dichroic glass became more widely known in modern society when NASA decided to use it in the 1950s and ’60s. The difference is, instead of using silver and gold, NASA developed a process to vaporize metals with electron beams in a vacuum chamber and then apply it directly to surfaces in an ultra-thin film.” Micro-thin layers of metals or oxides are stacked together to create this beautiful shifting effect, making our Rainbow Dream Heart paperweight shimmer. Our handmade Rainbow Dream paperweight is solid hot-sculpted glass with layers of color encased in clear glass, finished with a heart stamp in the glass on the bottom. Signed and dated on the bottom.
