Not always straightforward and sometimes mystifying, our nighttime dreams give us pause to escape our day to day lives and our Moonlight Dream heart paperweight captures that effervescence with hues of swirling blue and sparkles. Our Moonlight Dream Glass Heart Paperweight makes a wonderfully unique, one of a kind gift or keepsake for yourself or loved one. The emotive colors in our handmade Moonlight Dream Glass Heart Paperweights speak to the complexity and depth of our feelings. Our new Moonlight Dream glass sculpture is a stunning example of this. Each one-of-a-kind, Moonlight Dream Heart paperweight, is made with 5 different swirling shades of blue made from transparent, opaque and opal sheet glass. We also swirl in ethereal dichroic glass to add an element of shimmering sparkle to our Dreamy glass heart. Each color is carefully selected for its special qualities. The many shades of blue and blue green glass are swirled together with shimmering dichroic glass specially formulated to remain crisp and clean.

Using color in the glass isn’t like mixing paint, it’s all about chemistry, patience, and experimentation. Also, because there is no “canvas”, layering colors is a tricky process. You have to make sure enough light can get into the piece so you can actually see the layers of colors. We have mastered using specialty colors in joyous, rich layers for your pleasure in the Enchanted Heart Paperweight.

Dichroic or “dichro” glass is glass that shifts between two or more colors in the light. We’ve been using it a lot this year in our sparkly Vedic Paperweights (as seen to the right). A type of dichroic glass dates back to 4th century Rome. However, we can thank NASA for our modern-day dichro! This article from Fire Mountain Gems explains, “Dichroic glass became more widely known in modern society when NASA decided to use it in the 1950s and ’60s. The difference is, instead of using silver and gold, NASA developed a process to vaporize metals with electron beams in a vacuum chamber and then apply it directly to surfaces in an ultra-thin film.” Micro-thin layers of metals or oxides are stacked together to create this beautiful shifting effect, making our Enchanted Heart Paperweight shimmer. Our handmade Moonlight Dream Paperweight is solid hot-sculpted glass with layers of color encased in clear glass, finished with a heart stamp in the glass on the bottom. Signed and dated on the bottom.
