The Staff Student Exhibition is an opportunity to showcase the diversity of art produced by both students and the Pewabic Staff. The show highlights the creative range within Pewabic Pottery, and a variety of mediums will be represented, including drawing, painting, fiber, and of course, ceramics.

Glassmaking terms

Glass workers have their own jargon to describe the various steps of their work and the tools they use to model the glass.
These terms were born with the glass tradition and was handed on from father to son. Nowadays, many of these terms have been forgotten but most of them are still used in the furnace.

BÒLO: A Murano word referring to the first lump of molten glass, just after its removal from the melting pot, before work on it begins. “Pastone” PARESON and LEVADA have a similar meaning.

Biannual All Media Exhibition 2012

April 20, 2012 – May 24, 2012

Detroit Artists Market is pleased to present its Biannual All Media Exhibition 2012. Opening April 20, 2012, DAM will host a public opening and awards reception that evening from 6pm to 9pm. This show is part of DAM’s 80th anniversary year with a juried exhibition of contemporary art by 26 Michigan artists. This year the Detroit Artists Market invited guest juror Leon Johnson, artist and educator, to select the show from 200 area artists and 400 pieces of artwork submitted for consideration. Leon Johnson will present a gallery talk on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 2pm to 4pm. The Biannual All Media Exhibition2012 will run through Thursday, May 24.

Cranbrook Academy of Art is delighted to present its annual exhibition of work by the 2012 class of Masters of Fine Arts and Masters of Architecture students in the newly renovated galleries of Cranbrook Art Museum. The Academy’s program is interdisciplinary in orientation, representing the crossing and merging of mediums as well as the investigation and use of content from diverse areas of thought. The exhibition of these 79 emerging artists reflects the culmination of their time spent at the Academy and ranges from painting and sculpture to video, photography and installation.

A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education
in Detroit’s New Center

This hugely popular event will showcase student artwork as we transform the new A. Alfred Taubman Center for Design Education into a gallery of more than 3,500 student works of art. The Student Exhibition is one of Detroit’s largest celebrations of creativity featuring creations by up-and-coming artists who craft furniture, sculpture, ceramics, hand-blown glass, jewelry, paintings, photography and other extraordinary works of art. All proceeds from the sale of art go directly to the students to help jump start their careers in art and design.
