Today we are preparing to do some color tests. To do a color test we will cut small chunk of the chosen glass rod, then heat the color to abt 1000°. Next we will pick up the color and blow a small glass piece. After it is blown and annealed, we will now know what that color will look like when it is actually blown out.
Most glassblowers today use a pre-manufactured form of concentrated color that is compatible with the clear glass that they are melting in their furnace, or adding the glass. These “pigments” are specifically formulated for applications in hot glass. The colors come in every color of the rainbow, either are transparent or opaque.
